This one hour talk aims to increase awareness and understanding of dyslexia and provide suggestions and strategies that will help. It will be followed by a 30 minute question and answer session. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Understanding dyslexia and literacy difficulties
  • Identification and assessment
  • The emotional aspect and how to build self-esteem
  • Teaching strategies that work
  • How parents can help the dyslexic child
  • How dyslexic adults can help themselves
  • Q & A session

Having worked for several years as an I.T. trainer in various UN agencies in Geneva, Niamh decided to complete a Masters in Education and pursue her interest in working with children.  Her studies include a postgraduate certificate in Difficulties in Literacy Development which focuses on dyslexia.
Niamh has been tutoring dyslexic students since 2006. She has also worked with children with other learning differences including dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADD and autism spectrum disorders. She feels very passionate about teaching and building the student’s confidence is a high priority to her.  She has witnessed dramatic results in student’s progress through their increased self-confidence.
